WSTC’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest

WHAT TO PREPARE: You have the option to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue, or read an excerpt of the script (provided at the audition).


John (Jack) Worthing – Male, 20s-30s. A seemingly responsible and respectable young man, who lives a double life in London as “Earnest.”
Algernon Moncrieff – Male, 20s-30s. A charming, idle bachelor, and best friend of Jack.
Gwendolen Fairfax – Female, 20s. Algernon’s cousin and Jack’s love interest. A sophisticated woman of fashion and taste.
Cecily Cardew – Female, 18. Jack’s ward. A romantic and imaginative young woman.
Lady Bracknell – Female, 50s-60s. Gwendolen’s mother and Algernon’s aunt. A snobbish and domineering aristocrat.
Miss Prism – Female, 30s-60s. Cecily’s dedicated governess.
Rev. Canon Chasuble – Male, 50s-60s. The local easy-going
vicar, and source of moral judgments.
Lane – Male, 20s-60s. Algernon’s manservant.
Merriman – Male, 20s-60s. Jack’s butler.

Please arrive 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled audition time

You will be asked to read an excerpt from the script at your audition, and you will be given a couple of minutes to look it over.

Rehearsals will begin in September and will be held 3-4 nights a week, dependent upon actors’ schedules and previous conflicts. There will be a conflict form for you to fill out when you arrive at the audition location.

Performances are November 9th-11th.
